AKS Information

The Australian Kiteflyers Society was formed by kite-flyers in 1978 to foster and encourage the timeless art of kiteflying. The society's aims are to promote safe kiteflying and to share the skills of its members through workshops and public demonstrations. The society also stages a number of kiting events and competitions for single, dual and quad line flyers. The AKS has members all over Australia and internationally who are kept informed of kiting events through the society's magazine Flying High.

  • The activities of the society include;
    - regular fly-ins each month
    - presenting The Festival of the Winds, Australia's largest kiteflying event, in conjunction with Waverly Council, at Bondi Beach annually.
  • Members Receive;
    - a Resource and Information Manual which lists sources of kites, building materials, flying locations.
    - Flying High, the society's newsletter, keeping members abreast of activities, forthcoming events, kite plans and building and flying hints.
    - kite books at special prices.
    - insurance coverage for public liability at official A.K.S. functions and fly-ins.

Membership is available to individuals and families for $45 per year
